If you are looking to start shooting portraits, you need to start

If you are looking to start shooting portraits, you need to start looking into "prime lenses" What's a prime lens? In basic terms, it's a lens that doesn't zoom. So why a prime? Soft blurry backgrounds! For most brands, you can get a 50mm f1.8 somewhere between $150 and $250. They're great portrait lenses for an excellent price. But if you're really looking at senior pictures or the like, I recommend a longer lens. Get an 85mm! Or something really crazy cool like a 105mm or a 135mm! Longer lenses tend to be more flattering and they just help people look their best! For most cameras, you can get an 85mm for somewhere between $400 and $600, depending on the brand. These shots were taken on my favorite lens, my 110mm.
